Food stamp challenge - wrap up
So we finished our 1 week and $40/ person challenge. It’s been quite an experience. I started out extremely skeptical, and ended feeling really good about it. If you missed some of my posts about the challenge, you can find them all here.
Some things I enjoyed were making meals every night and getting to figure out how to use ingredients we’d already bought in new meals. I’m...

Day 7
We made it to the final day! It’s been a fun challenge and overall great experience.
We had an interesting challenge for today. There was a football watch party at a friend’s house that normally includes food and bringing snacks, etc. The game started at 5:30 (Va Tech) and Sean wanted to be there for kickoff. We had to figure out how to squeeze in meals before then, and potentially...

Day 6
Almost at the end of the week! Day 6 was for leftovers for lunch and bean and cheese enchiladas for dinner! They are a special Hungry girl recipe (found here) and they were delicious!
The weekends are understandably the hardest. I’m so used to going out to dinner with Sean or a group and we had to make adjustments on Friday and Saturday for this. Since this is just for one week, not a big...
Doppelgangers
The sales team at my office as started a dangerous game of doppelgangers. The goal is to find a famous person that looks like someone else on the team, print out a picture of them, and stick it above their desk when they aren’t there. Oh and it has to “sting a little” as well.
This is obviously an extremely hilarious game. There are some very creative people in our company that...

Day 5
After our break yesterday we were in full swing again last night. We decided to make a chicken tortilla soup. It closely followed Hungry girl’s chicken tortilla soup recipe (here) with a few tweaks.
One of the main differences was we used the rest of the whole chicken Sean bought for the chicken (obviously) and the chicken broth. I really think the homemade broth made a big difference in...

Day 4
So last night was our cheat night so no food to write about :( I’ve started enjoying this little experiment so much I was legitimately sad that we weren’t doing it last night. Also since we didn’t make food last night, there were no leftovers for lunch today. I’ve been able to eat leftovers for lunch everyday so this is the first day I had PB&J for lunch. Since I...

Day 3
I’ve now been at this for almost half a week. Cooking the meals at night is actually fun and I’ve been looking forward to it. What has been tough is not having the convenience of grabbing food. Yesterday I had 5 minutes to eat lunch at 1:45 and had to heat my food up and eat it (as opposed to grabbing lunch when I was out, or a bag of chips from my office). Otherwise this whole thing...

Day 1 & 2
Day 1 For Sunday evening we made homemade salsa and Hungry Girl’s Southwestern Surprise (find the recipe here). We halved this recipe because it makes a TON. It’s very delicious, easy to make, and filling. I did a VERY rough estimate on cost of the dish. It’s tough because so many of these ingredients are shared across a lot of meals so keep that in mind. Dish has provided: 4...

The Shopping Trip
We went armed with our $80 (combined) and carefully planned shopping list. Since we Sean does a fair share of cooking, the actual shopping wasn’t TOO different. Some notable differences were:
Normally we don’t plan out meals so far in advance so it was a lot more shopping.
I usually buy a mix of store brand and brand name. I definitely don’t strictly shop brand/ not brand...

Food stamp challenge follow up
A couple points I wanted to mention re: this post. The normal grocery shopping isn’t ever TOO expensive, but it’s the frozen meals, wine I throw in, fancy cheese appetizers that add up. Also I’m the worst at running out for a quick lunch or dinner out to eat, which REALLY adds up. Sean eats out every lunch of the week.
Also, another rule is no eating food that already exists...

Food stamp challenge - eat on $40 a week
Sean and I decided to try the Food Stamp Challenge this week. It actually started off just trying to challenge ourselves to severely limit our spending on food. Then we did some research and found out that it’s a big thing a lot of different groups and individuals do. There was no real consensus on amount to do per week. We had originally said $50 (which still sounded terrifying to me). Sean...
Ahhhh you guys!
I didn’t realize so many of y’all live in Baltimore. Next time I’m here we need to meet up for sure!
To answer the restaurant question...
I was at Mo’s seafood. Not sure if it’s the best but it was walking distance from my hotel.
Baltimore restaurant musings
Bear with me as this is not the world’s most exciting post. But I’m traveling alone and have half an hour to kill before my client meeting.
I just had lunch at a local seafood place in Baltimore. First strange thing, I asked for a baked potato and all they brought with it was sour cream. This is very strange compared to what they usually bring out in Texas - butter, chives, bacon...
My crazy travel schedule
Aka I hope I can stay sane this week. I’ve got a flight on Tuesday, Wednesday, AND Thursday (2 of the 3 leave at 7am. Ack.). I’ll be going to the lovely town of Kansas City (eh) and Baltimore (more excited!). Thankfully I’m working from home on Friday to regain some sleep and sanity.
Hope everyone has a good week!

Aaron Rodgers scored me 53 points alone in fantasy...
He is a god walking among mere mortals.
To the asshole woman at Target.,..
Who loudly said to her young daughter in the dog costume aisle (as I was looking at it) “I would NEVER do that to my dog ..”
I GUARANTEE you my dog is treated better, and has a better life than your dog. The end.
