Day 3

I’ve now been at this for almost half a week. Cooking the meals at night is actually fun and I’ve been looking forward to it. What has been tough is not having the convenience of grabbing food. Yesterday I had 5 minutes to eat lunch at 1:45 and had to heat my food up and eat it (as opposed to grabbing lunch when I was out, or a bag of chips from my office). Otherwise this whole thing has been really fun.

Day 3 was pasta night! We bought a box of pasta and jar of regular marinara sauce (together ~ $3). What was fun was adding to the meal. For day 1’s meal (HG Southwestern Surprise) I only used about half the ground beef. Sean was like “What are we going to do with all the leftover meat?” In my stroke of genius (the only thing I contributed to this entire project) I was like “We should add it to the pasta!”. We added onion, garlic, and ground beef to the already existing sauce.

We had side salads and I made croutons out of our french bread. It took about 20 minutes, but they tasted EXACTLY like real croutons! I just buttered both sides of the bread with (homemade) garlic butter, cut them into cubes, put them on a cookie sheet at 350 for 10 minutes on each side. The only thing I would have done differently is cut the cubes up smaller. The finished product was delicious and so was the meal.

Dish has provided: 4 meals (Dinner - Sean and I and 2 lunches)
Total cost for dish: $7.33
Cost per meal: $1.83
