Bad Bug Luck

Apparently I’m doomed to have unfortunate run-ins when eating out with co-workers.

The first one was in NYC a few weeks ago. The CEO was at the conference we were at, and took the team out to a nice dinner at the W in Times Square. Obviously a very nice, and very expensive restaurant. My meal came, a filet mignon and arugula salad.  I had taken a few bites of my meal when all of a sudden a BEETLE crawls out of my salad. It crawls right out, hops off the table and onto our booth. My boss was sitting beside me and smashed it with his hand. Unfortunately the damage was done. The staff was less than apologetic. They didn’t charge me and offered to bring me something else, but didn’t seem too worried.

Then today I was out to lunch with some co-workers downtown at Copa restaurant. I had chicken tortilla soup. There was a fly buzzing around and I kept swatting it away. Eventually it landed in my soup, got stuck in the broth, and started going for a swim. The staff here was less than concerned as well. They offered me a new bowl of soup, but I was waaay over it at that point.

My takeaway from all this: I’m going to stick to drinking with the coworkers instead.
