Microsoft
So I found out (most people may already know this) that Microsoft is releasing Office 2010 early next year. It’s been rumored that most of the changes are small and nothing noteworthy. The thing that caught my eye though was the fact that they are offering a “lite” version of their major products (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) for free to any user. This shocked me (Microsoft isn’t trying to squeeze every last cent out of me!?) but didn’t surprise me, with Google Docs and Open Office out there they do have some competition in the home user market. I’m just looking forward to not have to shell out another $200 next time I buy my computer. Probably wouldn’t be good for students but for people in the workforce that will have the full version on their computers at work it shouldn’t be a problem. I don’t know whether or not it will be compatible with Mac but I’ve also heard that it’s web-based so that shouldn’t be a problem. Woohoo!
